Artist's Commentary: When I was in school studying painting, and as a young teacher at the School of Design at North Carolina State University,
I was very active exhibiting. I was so
successful that I began to expect to win prizes and it was a
very stimulating time. Several times , I exhibited my work
in New York and had opportunities to have a
gallery
representing
my
work.
That
experience
told
me
I
was
not
equipped
to
deal
with
the New York commercial
gallery dynamic.
I wanted to paint when, what , and how I wanted to
without external dictates.
I
could not , nor would not, choose to do other than
what I did although I
now realize that ones' work
has
to
have
meaning
and
value
beyond
the
personal.
My website offers an opportunity to show the results of a non-careerist artist who enjoyed every stroke of paint and life ,
whether
difficult
or
profoundly
successful.
